“Queen” By Robin Chappell

Rise and shine Queen, the sun is ready for you, elated by all your glory.

The Earth bestowing more time upon you, intently listening to light of your story

Anxiously tasting the nectar of melanin, the sweetest morning honeydew

Dreams of perfection and moments in heaven where no man is ready for you

When you look to your reflection and bathe in your glow

Others wonder what is your secret—what could you profoundly know?

Which heels have you trudged the world’s ugliness through?

Before they broke down on you and your stiletto snapped in two

Rise and shine Queen! Your individuality is what awaits

Time to tame your wild tresses, and straighten your crown—give the whole world a taste

They savor the yellow warmth of your life’s joy and taste the sunsets unexpired

Others unmercifully stare when the lady in bold reds and blues ravishingly takes the room

A style which never expires nor is compromised by what society agrees

The change in you is envious but they never saw the nights you fell to your knees

No one was there when you defeated yourself or the tragic doubts many minds never bare

They didn’t know you rose with such courage—picked yourself up by your teeth

Beauty and grace so obvious, they’ll never find what lies beneath

Rise my Queen! They should know how unstoppable you can be

No mountains, or winds, anyone’s hand, no vast oceans or deep blue seas

Only you know all that you need and all that you need is you

Rise and shine my beautiful Queen! The sweetest morning honeydew

Very Superstitious: Friday the 13th and the Reason Behind It’s Avoidance

Don’t walk under any ladders, don’t break any mirrors, don’t spill any salt, and don’t walk by any black cats! Happy Friday the 13th!”

Greetings and welcome to my author page and blog for those who decided they’d like to follow in the darkness and the weirdness! Today just happens to be Friday the 13th, and not only that! There is a full blood moon tonight if you’d like to get even more spooky and into it’s phenomenons. I write a blog about Friday the 13th every year for those who believe in superstition and even to enlighten those whom may not! I’m in love with the history of it and how through just the simplicity of rumored myths, a few biblical references, and the culture of movies and entertainment; it’s become one of the most avoided days in history!

People are known to avoid numerous activities during Friday the 13th because of the rumors that it presents disaster and bad luck. Couples will rarely get married on a Friday the 13th, some people avoid flying on airplanes, and any specific fear inducing activity. So what brought about the fear of the number 13? Well, religiously, the 13th is supposedly the recorded date that Jesus was crucified, in addition to it being a Friday. Judas was the 13th disciple to sit at the table with Jesus before he was seized…and we should all know the bad luck and betrayal that guy brought to the entire story. So now the number 13 is like the plague.

Photo by John-Mark Smith on Pexels.com

It’s known to cause chaos and put certain situations off balance. It is unlucky for 13 people to sit at a dinner table together. Some hotels do not have a 13th floor or let guests stay in a room that would be numbered 13, and when on an elevator the floors will jump from the 12th floor to the 14th floor. Although, now that the Friday Jesus died is considered “Good Friday”, it still invokes fear and is considered bad luck when paired with the number 13.

I feel that the only way most superstitions and myths can exist is through believers. What you don’t believe in and give your energy to cannot harm you, so even though I am amused by it’s history and back stories, I’m not a believer in this day causing bad luck to anyway. I’m more than happy it’s finally Friday! I am even more excited about the blood moon that will be out tonight and hope that you will also be lucky enough to enjoy it with clear skies.

What is known as the “blood moon” is really September’s “Harvest Moon”. It will be the first full moon that can be vividly seen around the entire country. The next one will not appear for another 30 years so don’t miss it and spread the word! More facts at the link below! What other spooky facts and superstitions can you share about Friday the 13th? Have a fun one!

“I’VE HAD IT!” I stated in bottled frustration through gritted teeth.

Flinging open my door I eyed the dark footsteps pacing the floor heavily

They were two shadows of anxiety moving left and right…reflectively and quietly

I’d been here for nearly two weeks and already had it out for whomever occupied 13B

I decided to give them unsettling pieces of my mind about the noise I constantly endured

Their loud jazz music, obvious shuffling, their sad ass weeping, plus more!

It was like an insane asylum across the hallway full of parties that I’d abhor

I pounded their door on a mission not caring if anyone within earshot listened

My anger boiled over like water. The perspiration on my forehead glistened

I continued to knock and knock some more.

A series of strong knocks matched mine on the other side of the door

The nerve of this bastard!! My knocks turned into heavy kicks at full force

Until my cultivating rage brought forth the burly property landlord

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!! Trying to wake the dead?”

She stood her ground, appearance looking as if she had just rolled out of bed

Large crossed arms with dark small hairs followed her confused and drowsy stare

“I’ve had it up to here!” Raising my large hand above my head.

With their unnecessary noise during my relaxing evenings!” I now calmly said

Realizing they’d yet to open the door I pounded my large fists once again

Two times. Five times. Eight times and then ten

She stared at me as if something was extremely amusing.

“Lloyd, I’m going to ask again…what the hell are you doing?

I’m not too sure what sounds that you hear…but no one’s lived in that unit for fifteen years.”

Stepping back slowly and releasing a gasp osurprise I could no longer contain

I abruptly stopped and looked at her as if she were insane

Once I averted my attention back to examining my neighbor’s door

It no longer had light flooding from beneath

The pacing footsteps I could no longer see

The door’s rotted wood and paint decomposed before my eyes

You would have sworn I was a ghost once my skin turned pale and white

CAUTION tape blocked it’s entrance displaying the tenant’s only remnants

With a shake of her head and a wave of her hand the landlord walked away

Fuzzy blue house shoes slapping the black bottoms of her feet incessantly

Leaving me standing there planted in confusion…literally sick from shock and sorrow

“To answer your question…THAT IS why people don’t stay in that unit for too one long

I’ll have your deposit ready when you turn in your keys tomorrow.”

“Smile Pretty” By Robin Chappell

My lonely eyes watched him across the room
Waltzing right in, mouth full of beautiful white teeth
He set aside his coat and umbrella to kindly greet me
It really should be a sin to possess such a grin
One that melts me down to a runny slushy
So you can have your way with me even when you are guilty
Asking about your day is the only thing I muster to say
I meekly point to your chair as you inhale my completed dinner in the air
“Smells pretty good.” You speak the same words that I knew you would
I watch those teeth, those perfect teeth as they eagerly chomp down
Separating and creating sloppy smacking sounds
Savoring every flavor, sloshing it all around
You go on to describe your day after telling me the pasta tasted okay
I ate and listened intently, swallowing my sips of red wine gently
He disgusted me as he continued to chew more loudly
Inhaling enormously rude gulps of red wine like he was extremely thirsty
I swallowed the large lump of throw up forming in my throat
Annoyed at how he slurped his soup and where he tossed his coat
Vexed about how much of a mess he didn’t know he made me
How he tells me lie after lie as if I am stupid or crazy
He’s even gotten lazy at hiding it all
Barely deleting text messages…no longer screening his calls
“BECAUSE I SAW THEM ALL!” I loudly wailed into her beautiful terrified face
She attempted to convince me it isn’t what I think as her heart raced
He had to know what he created in me…how numb I was inside
So when I kidnapped his other lover named Jay and took her for a ride
When I watched the blood seeping slowly from the strong blow to her head
Seething from the loving words they’d texted…all the “I love you’s” they’d said
I felt absolutely no sympathy or remorse for her fake ass tears
It was amazing to be in charge and even better to be genuinely feared
So I watched him now even in this very moment sitting in front of me
Confidently eating my thousandth cooked meal with absolutely no worry
My neatly arched eyebrows raised as he finished only to say
“I really need to step away and call my assistant Jay.
He needed to tell me details on the meeting they held today.”
This is the trigger…this is the shit that I refused to stand
Him still attempting to make me believe that Jay was really a man
His words never make him flinch or take into consideration
The affect that he had on my sanity…the deterioration of my patience
I disdainfully eyed his athletic frame slowly slinking away from me
Picking food out of his pretty teeth, releasing a loud belch from his toned belly
The small phone in my pocket began to loudly ring
The ring back tone on the other end of his phone began buzzing
His ass still stood there waiting on her to pick up
Then slowly turning around since I’m sure hearing her new voicemail sucked
“Drew…if you’re hearing this I’m dead.
She knows all of the things we did and we said.
We must accept our fates and now it’s too late…we allowed Allison to be…mislead.”
His solid frame stood frozen in place as a satisfied smile crept across my face
His iPhone slowly dropped from his hand landing heavily by his feet
His breathing harshened as bullets of sweat formed all over his body
I could literally hear his thumping heartbeat
Slowly turning around he faced me in horror and shock, I loved it
This had to be the sweetest feeling ever felt and heaven was right above it
“What the hell did you do?” He asked cautiously, but he knew the answer to a certain degree
“This is a question you should be asking yourself…all that you do, the LIES that you tell-“
His muscular arms flew up in exasperation, the color was draining from his handsome face
His skin full of stressful perspiration. “WHERE IS SHE?” He had the nerve to scream
How the tables have turned after years of being underappreciated and demeaned
“Oh she’s here…” I stepped up close to his left ear. “Just like sex…you put her inside of you
All inside of your mouth. Since you literally had her for dinner now you can shit her out.”
When I stepped back and looked into his face you would think he turned into stone
He processed every single word I just stated…I saw it in his eyes as he weakly moaned
“Her nice and supple flesh created a very soft and flavorful noodle for the pasta tonight.”
I gushed with my hand to my chest as I reminisced on the most perfect meal I ever created
“I was so elated you loved swallowing the wine since her blood was pretty thick,
but no worries, I watered it down so it would be easy for you to swallow it.”
I brought my hand to my lips, kissing into the air like I was the greatest chef ever.
His face looked clammy and his eyes began to water like suddenly he had a terrible fever
He doubled over and projectile vomited the dinner I worked so hard to make
Crawling towards me on the floor like a little bitch
Begging me for his life he just knew I was about to take
More empty promises for him to make and break
“Please, Allison…I will make this all better…you don’t have to do this.
I learned my lesson and won’t tell anyone. Please just let me prove it!”
His wails were the most annoying sounds I had ever heard in my life
Didn’t he know there was NOTHING he could ever do to make this right?
At least Jay knew it, and as I happily chopped away at her beautiful head,
Creating the perfect meal for Drew, extracting her eyeballs for am addition to the salad
The sounds of her body going through the meat grinder
She knew should couldn’t have been blinder
She’d gotten more than she really bargained for
Consequences on top of a shot of allure
And was he even worth it?
I’m sure he wasn’t now
Not at this moment where she was being unassembled
Butchered up worse than a cow
My limit had been dangerously pushed past my point of return
Not only would they know, I had to make them learn
I didn’t want to hear how I was the monster in the end
I was the victim of delusion; a more than wicked game of pretend
Jay and I were both under a spell and melted down to nothing
Drowned beneath the fluorescent beams of a smile promising more than something
Then later leaving you numb
More numb than the Novocain I now had coursing through Drew’s veins
Not able to put up a fight, only lie there and hold me in his sights
As I happily pulled every single pretty tooth from it’s roots
To me it was a favor, showing him a little more kindness than I ever did for her
Every tug and every jerk gave me more life and released the pressure
The crunchy sounds of them separating from the gum was art
The perfection of me snipping out his tongue touched my heart
Because no longer could he lie and no longer could he deceive
I felt like more than a superhero even if no one else would ever know
We never truly know our potential until something massive makes it grow
I strutted into Jay’s dramatic vigil and community search as the most concerned citizen
Displaying empathy and hurt to her family with a clear and saddened vision
I expressed to her mother that I was an old friend
Letting time separate our bond once college came to an end
With tears in her eyes, she felt that she’d soon come back
I had to think of everything just to stifle a laugh
I told her anything is possible as long as we believe it
Leaving her with my condolences and a pan of my “special” recipe of pigs in a blanket

Tick-tock says the clock.

Darkness runs deep in this decrepit spot

Wooden boards creak with a sound so unique

Penetrating the silence surrounding my soul running deep

Now I could barely weep and accepted my fate

The time for excuses and understanding proved far too late

Fibers of thick rope cutting into my skin like a sin

The kind you make promises to God about never doing again

One that you can’t speak of; it’s just too much of a risk

So you bottle them up, wandering lonely roads with no end

Sometimes at bars full of speculation and gin

I loved flying on the wings of gambling with no luck

Poker games of fame; frequenting casinos just the same

Nothing was ever gained but trouble seemed to triple double

IOU’s leading to bloodied hands and dirty shoes

My vast dreams of riches became a boxed in view

The cause of feeling invincible; more than logically confused

I’d abused and exhausted all possibility of empathy

There was nothing further to be said as I lay there silently

Droplets of sweat running down my neck; loose dirt tossed on top of me

There was nothing I could see and it was fitting for the cause

Cheating the most dangerous man out of a poker game I crossed

And now it was my loss, the entire loss of my life

Survived by one four year old child and a loving wife

My own obituary in my head without any feelings of fear or dread

I decided to take my last breath like a man

I knew I was dealt the cards and how I played my hand

Praying my family understands my imperfections

My lack of self control and my loss of moral direction

The darkness in my soul that I could no longer hide

Dying all alone; paying my debt being buried alive
